1st Men's VIII

Bow: Thomas Boston 2: Philip Garsed 3: David O'Brien 4: David Hardeman 5: Richard Barnwell 6: Chris Smith (Hornets) 7: Ben Evans Stroke: Chris Thompson-Walsh Cox: Laura Sutcliffe

7th College Men's VIII in 4 mins 54.7 secs

David O'Brien reports:

Can't remember the exact details now but there was a general positive feeling after we raced. A noticeable improvement since Head of The Cam. This didn't really manifest itself in the results but I guess everyone else is improving equally rapidly at this stage in term. I think the difference in our case is that we still have much further to go. As long as we keep plugging away and making the changes, we'll set ourselves up well for bumps. We already have the edge over all of our immediate competitors. Nines should give us a good opportunity to see what we can do at high intensity over short distance. We've got a cup win and a plate win in the last two years, let's add to that.

Well, one thing's for sure- we have come one long way in the last couple of weeks. There's still a fair way to go but, if we keep this rate of improvement up until bumps, there'll be no stopping us! Untill we hit Newnham of course...

4th in W3 Division in 6 mins 40.7 secs

Esther Momcilovic reports:

As has been pointed out to us, Churchill M1 rowed this course twice. Once in the first division, and once in ours. They were 33 seconds slower when they did it in our division. I think this gives some impression of the wind factor! Having said that, this was probably one of the best races we have done. Alright, the wind was a bitch and coming round Ditton we were basically stationary, but the crew put the power down and kept it on throughout the race. Also, even though we were 4th, we were the 2nd fastest W2 in our division- let's make it the 1st by Bumps!

WINNERS of W5 division in 6 mins 49.8 secs

Christina Pettit reports:

This was a great first race - not only did we win W5, but there was only one crew faster than us in W4. The rowing felt really good - I never felt that we were rushing, even at a high rate, for which I think Emma W gets a lot of credit. Our somewhat eventful row home was, I thought, quite impressively well sat as well!

Obviously we still need to work on some stuff, like balance and neatness before bumps, but I think we can really improve in the next few weeks.

Well done everyone - this really made my week!
